From 2023, AWARE will publish new biographies of international artists born in 1973, thus moving the chronological bounds of its database forward by one year. The +1 Programme marks the beginning of the AWARE website’s progressive move towards contemporary art, allowing us to integrate a new birth date for the artists each year.

For the first year of the +1 Programme, AWARE collaborated with Camille Richert, art historian, curator, and 2022 AWARE prize commissioner, who compiled a list of international artists born in 1973 and of expert authors, whom AWARE asked to write the biographies.

The +1 Programme was made possible thanks to the support of Maison Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin, founded in 1772.
