Within a partnership with 49 Nord 6 Est – Fonds régionaux d’art contemporain (FRAC) Lorraine, the Be AWARE: A History of Women Artists exhibition has set up its modules at the Village du Livre in Fontenoy-la-Joûte, in bookstores, L’Etable aux livres and Le Lotus Bleu, after having been exhibited within the FRAC and then at Écurey Pôles d’Avenir in Meuse.
This documentary exhibition highlights women artists of the 20th century and those who have contributed to making them visible. Within a lightweight, colourful structure with screens all designed by matali crasset and AWARE, visitors can explore a global and more egalitarian history of art.
Inaugurated in 1996 and supported by the association Les Amis du Livre, the Village du Livre now has 10 booksellers, a calligrapher, and a craftsperson working in restored old farms. In addition to echoing the research and research focus of AWARE, the two bookstores hosting the Be AWARE modules will offer an accompanying selection of books that will illustrate the exhibition’s theme.
Be AWARE: A History of Women Artists is on view until 21st January, 2024.
