In May 2024, Njabala Foundation, Independent Curators International (ICI) and AWARE: Archives of Women Artists, Research and Exhibitions, launched a mentorship programme for emerging female-identifying curators based in Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. Exploring the theme “Curating as Multiplying Mediation and Access to Culture,” this programme aims to support emerging arts workers enabling them to develop their practice and research, access resources, and engage in dialogue with exhibition curators from East Africa and beyond. It also seeks to promote the creation of tools and initiatives to raise awareness about gender issues in the East African context. Six selected mentees will be accompanied by their mentors to develop and support their projects.
