Bosnian painter and video artist.
After graduating with a degree in painting from the Sarajevo Academy of Fine Arts, Danica Dakić went on to study and pursue her artistic research in Düsseldorf, Germany. Her works, especially the series Role-Taking, Role-Making (2005) and the installation El Dorado (2007), utilise a variety of mediums (photography, film, video and sound installation) to explore the question of cultural memory in the context of war, social and political change, and globalisation. Her video and sound installations explore the role of various forms of language, especially orality, in the process of shaping our identities.
Her work has been shown in Sarajevo, Venice, Kassel, Düsseldorf, Istanbul, São Paulo, Sydney, Vienna, and Los Angeles, and she has taught at Bauhaus Weimar University since 2011. D. Dakić was selected to represent Bosnia at the 2019 edition of the Venice Biennale.
