AMIS: AWARE Museum Initiative and Support brings together museums from around the world with the aim of collecting and sharing research on women artists produced as part of exhibitions, acquisitions and around collections. Following the exhibition elles@centrepompidou. Women artists in the collections of the Musée national d’art moderne (2009), which inspired the organisation’s creation, AWARE has continued to develop partnerships with museums around the world. These collaborations are varyingly based on museum initiatives, actions and AWARE research programmes.

 

As part of its programme “Illuminating the Age of Enlightenment: Women Artists of the 18^th Century“, AWARE has been working with the Rijksmuseum, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts Museum (PAFA), the Baltimore Museum of Art (BMA), the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO), the Alte Nationalgalerie Berlin and the Philadelphia Museum of Art (PMoA).

The “Women in New Media Art” research programme is supported by the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA), the Mori Art Museum, the Zentrum für Kunst und Medien Karlsruhe (ZKM), the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) and the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea (MMCA).

AWARE publishes biographical notes and articles based on the collections of the Musée d’Orsay in Paris, the Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona (MACBA) and the Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM). The exhibitions Radical Women (Hammer Museum, Los Angeles, 2017), She-Bam Pow POP Wizz! Les amazons du POP (1961-1973) (Musée d’Art moderne et d’Art contemporain -MAMAC, Nice, 2020) and Women in abstraction (Centre Pompidou, Paris, 2021) have also led to publications.

In addition, AWARE regularly co-organises conferences and symposia with institutions such as the National Portrait Gallery (London), the Pérez Art Museum Miami, the Petit Palais (Paris), the Centre Pompidou (Paris), the Musée d’Orsay (Paris) or Réunion des Musées Métropolitains Rouen-Normandie (RMM).
