Interview with Marie Orensanz

Introduction

In February 2023, the sixth publication of the AWARE Outstanding Merit Prize series devoted to Marie Orensanz, winner of the 2020 edition of the prize, will be available in bookstores. The interview was led by Hélène Meisel, art historian and critic.

“The sense of intimacy is to be found in the discovery of the words and symbols. I don’t think art is, nor should it be, the vision of one person, the expression of one person. Instead, it should give people points of reference so that they can develop their own ideas”.

The collection of interviews has been launched in partnership with Manuella Éditions for all the laureates of the Outstanding Merit Prize since its creation, with the objective of giving visibility to these artists and having their voices heard. These interviews thus celebrate their careers.

In November 2019, the first edition in the collection devoted to Nil Yalter was published, followed by those dedicated to Jacqueline de Jong (2019 winner), Judit Reigl (2017 winner), Esther Ferrer (2016 winner) and Vera Molnár (2018 winner). These will be succeeded by works on Barbara Chase-Riboud (2021 winner) and Laura Lamiel (2022 winner).
