This year, the Centre Pompidou and AWARE: Archives of Women Artists Research & Exhibitions are inaugurating a multi-year partnership aimed at uniting and amplifying their efforts in favor of the visibility of women artists. The two share common values through their defense of women’s rights and their shared approach to researching and promoting their work. Through this partnership, the Centre Pompidou and AWARE intend to combat the lack of recognition of women artists, and to contribute to a fairer representation of their work in art history and within art institutions.
On October 9, 2024, a unique visitor walkthrough focused on works by women artists from the collection of the Centre Pompidou will be launched. During their visit of the permanent collection, visitors will be able to use QR codes to access biographies, articles, interviews, videos, and podcasts available on the AWARE website. These QR codes will appear on artwork labels featured in the Centre Pompidou | Constellation programme, a series of exhibitions showcasing the Centre Pompidou’s collection at leading cultural institutions during its closure.
As part of their collaboration, links to the respective websites will be available on the Centre Pompidou and AWARE websites, to facilitate research and provide access to online resources on women artists of the 20th century. Finally, the partners will post jointly on social media through thematic publications relating to women artists.
I’m delighted and feel that this tour of women artists in the permanent collections, viewed through the lens of the AWARE website’s content, is a fitting way to celebrate both AWARE’s 10th anniversary and the 15th anniversary of “elles@centrepompidou” – Camille Morineau, Director of AWARE.
